12 Million Voices

Ellis Island is a symbol of America’s immigrant heritage. From 1892 to 1954, this depot processed the greatest tide of incoming humanity in the nation’s history. Nearly twelve million landed here in their search of freedom of speech and religion, and for economic opportunity.

We spent half a day here whilst visiting the Statue of Liberty and whilst I appreciate that the subject matter should be treated with a little more respect, I simply cannot pass the opportunity in this post to state that the gift shop in this place is frickin' awesome! I discovered all manner of great things from replicas of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitiution, to patriotic Christmas tree decorations.

The image of the tower highlights the interesting architecture complete with colourful masonry. More pictures from this series will follow over the coming months.

Meanwhile, please visit the official website to find out more about this historic location.

Hack 'N Slash

New York has been the location for a fair share of movie horror in the past. Who can forget the sheer terror of ‘The New York Ripper’, the obscene bloodlust of ‘Maniac’, the shocking contents of ‘Basket Case’, and of course, a visit from the ultimate tourist torturer, Jason Voorhees in ‘Friday 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan’.

With Halloween just around the corner why not join in the fun with the New York City Horror Film Festival. Held on October 18th - 22nd 2006, it’s a chance to indulge your passion for all things gory and grotesque. Visit the website for more details…

And whilst all of you US gore hounds are enjoying the show, I'll be stuck here in the UK with just the Horror Channel to keep me company… Deep joy --- ANOTHER repeat of a dire 50's movie...
