Spin City

City Hall is the official seat of Government in New York. It is located in Lower Manhattan on Murray Street between Broadway and Park Row and across from one of the campuses of Pace University. We happened to be walking along this route and discovered it quite by accident.

City Hall houses the Mayor's office and the New York City Council. Press conferences concerning city politics are frequently held on the steps of the building. The mayor's staff and thirteen municipal agencies are located in the nearby Manhattan Municipal Building, one of the largest governmental buildings in the world.

Fences surround the building, with a strong security presence by the NYPD. We found this out when Mrs H decided to take a picture of the NYPD officers! More on this in a future post...

Ticket Number 26 Please

The striking statue of Theodore Roosevelt (1939) as sculpted by J.E. Fraser, situated on the Central Park West entrance to the American Museum of Natural History.

I can really recommend this place, especially the Hayden Planetarium experience. We expected to spend a few hours in the museum but we ended up spending the entire day wandering around!

Look out for planetarium and museum pics very soon...

Exhibitionist

Mrs H and I made a deliberate detour this Saturday afternoon, and once again on Sunday morning, to visit the Earth From The Air Exhibition currently touring segments of the UK.

What really sets this project apart from the masses is that its entire contents are exhibited outdoors. Visit the website for more details but as you can no doubt deduce from its title, it's a special series of images taken by world famous photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, based on famous and unusual locations from the air.

Upon approaching the obligatory gift shop erected within the site, I was delighted to see this image of the World Trade Center mounted on the shop wall within a special area.

Here's a closer look at the plaque information positioned below the picture...

It has been on location in Plymouth City Centre since August 26th and is due to finish on October 24th. Anyone who lives in and around the South West of the UK should take the time to visit. In the meantime, pop over to the official blog for more information on its moves...

Captured In Graphite - Part 2

With the fifth anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 almost upon us, I found it particularly appropriate to post this example of pencil art from sketch artist Manhattanman911. A variation on the familiar (and sadly missed) view of the Manhattan Skyline complete with the World Trade Center...
