Leafy Hideout

We sat and watched the pigeons for the duration of our break in Bryant Park and this one was sat in the tree. All of a sudden, and without warning, he would swoop down and finish off any food that happened to hit the ground. Little sod.

CV-11 (1943 - 1982)

Located on the West side of Manhattan at Pier 86 is the dominating sight of the USS Intrepid - one of the most successful ships in US History is now a national historic landmark, and one of the most unique attractions in New York City.

In 1943, this aircraft carrier was commissioned for service in World War II and went on to serve as a primary recovery vessel for NASA and then in Vietnam.

Sadly, we never seemed to find the time to board and enjoy the museum. However, we plan to visit when we come to NYC again.

Cathedral Of Commerce

The Woolworth building, known as the 'Cathedral of Commerce' because of it's distinct Gothic styling, was the tallest tower in the world when built in 1913. However, the eventual completion of the Chrysler Building in 1930 took this accolade away.

I was disappointed to discover that the observation deck on the 58th floor has been closed since 1945. Ah well, we were only 60 years too late...

Treescraper

New York Fashion Week - Located in Bryant Park, the area was awash with extravagant make up, outrageous attire, and high fly attitudes - and that was just the men!

We somehow managed to find a secluded spot for a drink amid all the media circus. I looked around, took some random snaps and this one seemed to contradict the scene.

Tribute In Lights - Take 2

Whilst I have already covered the 9/11 tribute in lights during an earlier post, I felt that this picture deserved a spot all of it's own. After the complete and utter disappointment at my own camera letting me down on the night, here is a truly stunning reminder that a decent camera can most certainly go a long way! Taken from the Skyscraper City website, courtesy of photographer Al Camardella Jnr, this creates a majestic sight along the entire Manhattan Skyline.

Be sure to check out the other entries on Skyscraper City's forum. Some of the panoramas are truly immense! Set your monitor resolution to the max! :)

I'm A Dreamer - Get Me Out Of Here!!

Now I'm sure that some people are lucky enough to live amongst idylic surroundings that they wouldn't swap for all the tea in China, but it's usually the case that wherever you live, you always wish you lived somewhere else. Glancing out at the sun from my office window this morning, gently reminded me of this...

I was then suddenly transported back to New York, amidst the lazy sunny afternoons that we both enjoyed last September. With areas like Central Park, Battery Park and Liberty Island, you can easily sit back and forget that you are sharing the air with 8 million other people in one of the most congested cities in the world. This is the alure that, for me, New York seeps from every avenue and park - a feeling of complete and utter bliss.
